Hydrangea Square Botanical Cast

$45.00

Hydrangea Square Botanical Cast

Long flowering Annabelle hydrangeas are one of my favourites and I have planted them where I can look out at them from my studio every day.  In this cast the delicate new blooms intertwine gracefully, as they do in my garden.

Product Description:

All of my botanical tiles are hand-cast from an original clay mold that I create using flowers from my garden. They reveal many delicate details that often are not noticed in real life - the tiny hairs on a stem, the intricate flower stamens and pistils, the tracing of veins on a leaf.

As every tile is handmade, the shade of the plaster and the exact dimensions may vary slightly. This tile is also  available framed in 2 styles and six different colour choices. See the Framed Botanicals in Collections to see more options.

Medium: Hydrocal, a fine casting plaster designed to capture fine details

Dimensions: 6.5" x 6" x 1/2"

Diane, Botanical Artist

I am a botanical artist who has developed my own unique style. Utilizing the vegetables, herbs and flowers cultivated from my cottage garden, I create a collection of show stopping wall hangings. Throughout my 30 plus years of practice, I have developed a range of drying, pressing and casting techniques for capturing the beauty of my homegrown plants in my art.

My work uses delicate cross sections that I create by using a razor to cut through the centre of each vegetable, preserving the roots, stems and seeds. I have spent years developing a process for pressing and drying these perfect cross sections and retaining their integrity. My finished works capture the vivid colours, varied textures and delicate inner details of each vegetable.

In my latest collection of botanical casts, I focus on traditional representations of herbarium specimens as art. My cast pieces are directly inspired by this art form. For this work, I meticulously transfer the delicate veins, tendrils and flowers of my plants into a clay mold, and then encase them in plaster medium.
