Nemus is the Latin term for wood and forest. There was a beautiful apple orchard close to my home, where I took my dog for a daily walk. The orchard was in its twilight years, but still farmed for its precious fruit. One day on my daily walk, to my horror, the entire orchard had been chopped down. All the trees lay there like fallen warriors.
It was heartbreaking and I could feel the sorrow and devastation of the trees. This inspired a painting. When I spoke to the land owner in dismay, he said "My land taxes went up for a producing farm. I could not afford to keep the orchard." A reality we sadly live in.
