Watercolour/Pen & Ink (Original – 9” x 12”)
Lightening strikes happen occasionally in the bush in Muskoka and I happened to come across this maple tree while hiking. Lightening must have hit this tree some time ago because the tree was starting to grow back onto itself where the strike was.
I used Pen & Ink to show the textures of the bark and heavy ink work showing the charred cavity of the tree. Ink Intense Watercolour Pencils were used to show depth in the damaged area of the tree. Various colours were used to represent the mushrooms and leafs. Pen strokes with added colour show pine needles which helps to ground the maple tree in this piece.
