Spending some time observing this group of water plants in the early morning sun inspired me to do this sketch. A great example of contour and parallel line work in action. I wanted to achieve the look of transparency of the leaves as the sun was shining threw them by using lighter contour line work.
The reflections in the water were achieved by using parallel line work. I tried to indicate some form of multi level horizon line indicating where the plants grow up out of the water. I like the look of the gently curving arch that the plants make leading your eye from left to right or right to left.
